Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation Q & A

What is Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation?

Vaginal rejuvenation focuses on correcting issues that affect your vaginal health and function. The team at Distinctive Women’s Health Care offers several cosmetic gynecology procedures to address common vaginal health issues without surgery including:

Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation (LVR®)

Dr. Kotzen trained in the use of LVR technology with Dr. 90210 reality show star David Matlock, MD, at the Laser Institute of America in Los Angeles, California.

LVR can improve vaginal muscle tone and strength. Treatment can also decrease the size of internal and external vaginal diameters and improve strength in the perineal body, the area outside of your vagina, and above your anus.

As a result of LVR treatment, your sexual gratification improves and the look of your vagina is enhanced, with long-lasting results.

Labiaplasty

You can also benefit from LVR technology to address the size and shape of your labia, the inner and outer folds of your vulva, in a procedure known as labiaplasty.

Why should I consider Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation?

You can schedule a laser vaginal rejuvenation consultation at Distinctive Women’s Health Care if you’re unhappy with your vaginal function or appearance due to childbirth or the natural aging process.

Vaginal birth can cause trauma to your vagina that changes its function. The vaginal muscles undergo a great deal of stress during delivery. The muscles can stretch out and lose their tone, resulting in a loss of sexual gratification and less urinary control.

LVR can tighten these muscles to improve your sexual satisfaction. Treatment can also address urinary incontinence, a leakage of urine when you laugh or sneeze.

Dr. Kotzen designs a treatment plan to restore your vagina’s health. He uses the latest laser technology to treat your vaginal tissues without damaging surrounding skin or tissue.

What happens on the day of Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation?

Dr. Kotzen performs the same-day LVR at a surgical center outside the office. You will need a responsible adult to stay with you after surgery, and for the first 24 hours after your Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® procedure.

Because it is a surgical procedure, anesthesia will be adminstered, and you will receive a pudendal block, which numbs your vaginal area for 18 to 24 hours after surgery. This will allow you to be pain-free in the first day after surgery.

During your Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® surgery, Dr. Kotzen will use a laser to cut, dissect, and to suture material to tighten your vaginal muscles. The procedure itself takes approximately 1 hour, but this time varies depending on whether or not you also need treatment for stress urinary incontinence.

Following your procedure, you will spend two hours in the recovery room so that a nurse may monitor you. After two hours, you will likely be cleared to return home. Dr. Kotzen will discuss aftercare instructions with you to ensure you recover properly. The team will schedule followup appointments with Dr. Kotzen to ensure you are healing accordingly.

Specific recovery times depend on each patient and their circumstances. Patients typically report no pain for the first 18-24 hours (due to the pudendal nerve block) after which they note pain in the perineum. All patients state that discomfort is controlled with the prescribed pain medication. By 7-9 days, patients report a notable reduction in discomfort.

The majority of patients are completely healed at 6 weeks post surgery.
